If you're in the tech industry, there's no running away from talking with people.
And why I wish to teach you how to network. In a kinda convoluted, poetic way.
It’s always been all about relations.
Since my childhood as an introverted kid in the corner of the school corridor. Through adolescence and early uni times of a hectic (but kinda empty) social life. Late uni of personal crises and moving away from the public. Finishing (at least for now) with the sheer fascination and appreciation of curated connections of my adulthood.
And right now, as epiphany came down onto me. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, how you do things. You make things happen through relations. One way or another. And as it happens - they are found everywhere. In math, business, social studies, or restaurant industry. You just need to notice it. Find that silver lining and connect the dots making you open your eyes wider.
We will be doing precisely that. Finding lessons on relations, learning relations, utilizing relations. Wherever possible. And boy, there’s a lot.
Even current AI hype contains a relations factor. VCs, hackathons, social media, and Open Source. So how could we learn about it and what could we embrace out of this craze?
Gotta stay, the neurodivergent introvert with ADHD may seem a weird choice for someone writing about human-to-human interaction. But that’s precisely why I believe there’s so much to the subject we could dissect together.
It’s always been with me in my family, private, and professional life.
Always with the people-first approach. But with a hella bunch of anxieties that I have up to this day. Those needles and thoughts that make you doubt yourself. Those that make you feel out of place. Those that once again make you that unlikeable village boy.
It’s always been with me. Yet I never could put a single name to it. But it doesn’t mean I wasn’t using it and talking about IT. Funny, innit?
One could call it sales savviness. The other would go with being the event/community man. The Networker. Consultant, coach, mentor, or teacher? Manager, founder, businessperson. Artist, poet, or developer. Dots connector, systemic thinker.
A decent person.
But it’s also always been about me feeling lost. Feeling undefined, wearing too many colorful hats, gloves, and socks. Blurring my own image.
But it’s always been about relations.
And that’s why I’m here for you.
Or is it for me? Doesn’t matter. We’re here for each other, I guess.
I want to be here to explore the world of relations. No matter the label - let it be sales, programming (yup.), networking, marketing, entrepreneurship. It. Doesn’t. Matter.
You know what? It all can be about relations in its own sense.
I’d love to share my learning and experiences with relations in general. Whether it be sociological, psychological, or mathematical research. Let it be a story, case study, article, or just a thought.
Especially in the tech industry,
We tend to forget about the human touch and connection. Or at least forget about the gravity it truly can bring with itself. Making them a tool, a means to an end. Absolutely terrifying.
We tell founders to sell but do not explain why. We provide them with tools but we don’t make them fall in love with the process. Or even understand the significance it may bear.
We tell everyone to build a personal brand. But we don’t point out that it doesn’t need to be through marketing, social media, or being in the center of attention.
We try to force people to network. But forget to say it’s not a speed dating session.
Whereas, in the end, it’s all about relations.
Let’s talk about it. Every week (or two). About stuff like:
Networking is a math equation.
What did Keynes do to the modern model of human interaction?
It’s not so much until you see the big picture. Why Christmas matters.
Venture Capital is all about relations.
Your product doesn’t matter. Customer reviews do.
Or whatever else that comes down the line.
